Housing cooperatives under transfer of use are an alternative to housing access compared with traditional rental or property formats. Being a crucial tool to guarantee the right to housing in our towns and cities
It is a model based on the collective property concept against the individual property paradigm and the right to use a house in contrast to the private property right.
Its management and structure are based on cooperative and nonprofit foundations to provide decent housing at a reasonable cost for the cooperative members .
It aims to become a housing alternative setting the people at the center for generating public-cooperative collaborations, which work for the general welfare and the right to decent housing of quality.


WHICH CHARACTERISTICS HAVE THE HOUSING COOPERATIVES PROMOTED BY DOMÈSTIQUES?
Housing alternatives are linked to the principles of the social and solidarity economy. They present a nonprofit vision and democratic management of their inhabitants, who aim to transform the housing model.
Their main objective is to popularise the model. We research innovations that reduce access barriers existing in the model, promote its understanding and acceptance among citizens, and increase the desire to become part of one.
Working to answer the principles of the Housing White Book: Decommodification, Socialisation, and Relocation, being key to define the new Valencian housing model.
Backing cooperative housing as a mechanism towards the ecological transition and social justice by developing actions under the three working domains, environmental sustainability, and energy efficiency; community and social return; and diversity, inclusion, and gender perspective.


WHAT IS THE CONTRIBUTION
OF DOMÈSTIQUES?
Domèstiques is born to introduce and establish these experiences in the Valencian context. Alongside local stakeholders, Domèstiques focuses on spaces and initiatives of research, innovation, and drive to the model.
Generate dissemination and formation around cooperative housing, rethinking both the housing and policies to achieve more inclusive cities.
Collaborate with the public administration to guarantee that supported projects consider social aspects contributing to reverse the current housing crisis.
Network with other entities and cooperatives from the city. Contribute to the circular, social, and solidarity economy to generate collective alternatives to housing.
Advocate and support promoter groups of inhabitants to develop their housing cooperatives under transfer of use, accompanying them during their first steps.
